To coincide with World Book Day, the PTC is launching a Buy a Book fundraiser to help purchase new fluency books for the school.
Over the past few years, we have invested in the Little Wandle phonics programme, ensuring that every child learns to read with confidence through high-quality, carefully matched phonics readers.
As children become secure in phonics, the next important step in their reading journey is developing fluency—the ability to read smoothly, confidently and with understanding. Fluency books are specially designed to bridge the gap between phonics readers and longer chapter books. For many children, moving straight from simple phonics texts to dense pages of narrative can feel daunting, and fluency books provide the perfect stepping stone.
These books help children practise reading with expression, build comprehension, and develop the confidence they need before tackling longer stories independently. Once added to our school library, they will benefit many cohorts of pupils for years to come, supporting children as they grow from early readers into confident, enthusiastic lovers of books.
